Created to imitate the look of engraved printing, thermography is achieved through the heating of wet ink on top of a smooth paper surface. The result is a raised, glossy impression. More translucent than engraving ink, it is recommended for printing on light-colored papers only. Thermography is a nice, cost-effective alternative to letterpress and engraving.
